Upgrade SharePoint 2013 to 2016

Using the SharePoint Configuration Wizard

To upgrade SharePoint 2013 to 2016 using the SharePoint Configuration Wizard, perform the following steps:

1. On the server that hosts the SharePoint 2013 farm, install the following products and patches:
• SharePoint 2016
• The SharePoint 2016 Cumulative Update
• The SharePoint 2016 Language Pack (if necessary)
2. Open the SharePoint Configuration Wizard.
3. On the wizard's home page, click Next.
4. On the Select the farm to upgrade page, select the farm that you want to upgrade, and then click Next.
5. On the Specify the upgrade options page, select the following options:
• Upgrade to SharePoint Server 2016.
• Use the existing configuration database.
6. Click Next.
7. On the Review upgrade options page, review the upgrade options, and then click Next.
8. On the Upgrade progress page, monitor the progress of the upgrade.
9. When the upgrade is complete, click Finish.

Using the Command Line

To upgrade SharePoint 2013 to 2016 using the command line, perform the following steps:

1. Open a Command Prompt window.
2. Navigate to the directory where the SharePoint 2016 installation files are located.
3. Run the following command:
PSConfig.exe -cmd upgrade -inplace b2b -wait
4. When the upgrade is complete, the command prompt will return to the command line.
