Murder probe launched as man dies after ‘serious assault’

A murder investigation has been launched after a man died following a ‘serious assault’ in Walsall.

West Midlands Police were called to reports of a disturbance at an address on Birchills Lane, Birchills, just before 10.15pm on Thursday (March 9).

Officers attended and found a man with serious injuries. He was taken to hospital where he sadly died a short time later.

A post-mortem examination is due to take place to establish the exact cause of death.

A 40-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in police custody.

Detective Inspector Laura Harrison, from the force’s homicide unit, said: “This is a tragic incident and our thoughts are with the man’s family and friends at this difficult time.

“We are appealing for anyone who has any information about what happened to contact us. We are particularly keen to speak to anyone who may have seen or heard anything suspicious in the Birchills Lane area on Thursday evening.”
